I tell stories through imagery and text. I start with an image/idea and combine it with words. The image is painted or drawn or photographed or videotaped.
The content explores and sorts observations and encounters of human interactions and the impact of media as a constant in our lives.
The works have a kinship to genre painting where scenes of everyday life form the subject matter. But unlike 17c. lush Dutch interiors, the visual medium, including text, is stripped to its most basic form and focuses on mundane, everyday existence.
As a performance artist I use video to combine voice, image, text and sound to layer the narratives.
Recently I completed a series called "My Historical Fiction", which includes ten video narratives that have a poignancy in my memory that define my past.
Current work includes a small stage set that tells the story of four women playing cards . Each is a symbol of a queen and represents the meaning associated with their suit and the "hand they have been dealt." Their story is told in this context.
